About this experience
The Turkish hammam in Hurghada is the closest you can get to a real Istanbul bathhouse on the Red Sea. Two hours, six steps, one heated marble belly stone (göbek taşı), and a finish that leaves your skin honestly softer than the day you flew in. Free pickup and drop-off from any hotel, resort or hostel inside Hurghada is included, just tell us where to come.
What a real Turkish hammam in Hurghada actually does
The ritual was refined over four hundred years in Ottoman bathhouses, and it works because the order is right: heat first, then water, then exfoliation, then foam, then oil, then rest. We follow that order strictly. No step is skipped to save time, and nothing is added that doesn't belong.
The 6 steps of our hammam
1. Sauna and steam (15 min). The skin and muscles soften here. Pores open fully. We pour eucalyptus and mint over the steam stones, the way Turkish bathhouses still do.
2. Heated marble belly stone (15 min). The göbek taşı sits at 38°C. You lie on it, the warmth travels through the lower back and pelvis where modern life stores tension. Most guests describe this as the moment they actually relax.
3. Kessa-glove peel (15 min). A coarse silk-and-cotton glove lifts the dead skin layer that salt water and Egyptian sun harden onto your back, shoulders and legs. You will see the residue, this is normal and the point.
4. Olive-oil soap foam massage (20 min). Mountains of warm olive-soap foam, applied with linen and bare hands, glide over the freshly-exfoliated skin. This is the photo every guest takes.
5. Warm rinse with copper bowl. The traditional finish, copper bowl, no shower head, water at body temperature so the muscles don't tense up again.
6. 45-minute full-body massage. Calm, medium-pressure massage with your choice of jasmine, almond or unscented oil. Your skin is at its most absorbent right now, oils sink in instead of sitting on top.
Who this Turkish hammam is for
First-time spa visitors, couples, travellers who came off the beach feeling salt-tight, anyone who has only ever had a hotel-room massage and wants to know what the Turkish word "hammam" actually means. We see four to six guests per day on this ritual, mostly from Hurghada Marina, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna and the Sheraton Road hotels. Booking 24 hours ahead is recommended in high season, walk-ins are welcome when slots open.
After the session
Drink water, skip the beach for the rest of the afternoon (the skin is fresh and easily burned), and avoid heavy perfume on the body for 12 hours so the oils finish absorbing. Most guests sleep deeper that night than any other on the trip.
What to Expect
Plan 2 hours from arrival to leaving. Free pickup from any hotel, hostel, resort or apartment inside Hurghada is included, El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi are +€10 per guest. The route from the Sheraton Road takes 8 minutes; from Sahl Hasheesh, around 25.
Bring a swimsuit (or wear our disposable one). Lockers, towels and bottled water are all provided. The room temperature is warm but not hot, around 28°C, and the marble itself is what carries the heat. Tell us at the start about pregnancy, recent surgery, blood pressure medication or sun-burn from yesterday, we will lower the steam time and skip the kessa on burned skin.
Modesty is respected at every step. Couples can book adjacent marbles in the same room together at no extra cost.
